There was a very full <a href=\"https:\/\/soziolinguistika.eus\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/Hitzargiak-dosierra-2016_eng.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">programme<\/a> over the two days of the congress, with the first full roundtable discussion focussing on Oral Heritage. Always happy to assert the &#8220;Primacy of Speech&#8221;, Gordon was also pleased to learn of broadly similar projects working in <a href=\"https:\/\/soziolinguistika.eus\/eu\/hizkuntza\/alsaziera\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alsatian<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/soziolinguistika.eus\/eu\/hizkuntza\/euskara\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Basque<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/soziolinguistika.eus\/eu\/hizkuntza\/galiziera\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Galician<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"hhttps:\/\/www.northpost.co.uk\/uhi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/island-voices-for-hitzargiak.pdf\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-3517 \" title=\"Island Voices Presentation\" src=\"https:\/\/www.northpost.co.uk\/uhi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/hitzarpres1.jpg?w=300\" alt=\"HitzarPres1\" width=\"324\" height=\"241\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.northpost.co.uk\/uhi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/hitzarpres1.jpg 944w, https:\/\/www.northpost.co.uk\/uhi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/hitzarpres1-300x223.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.northpost.co.uk\/uhi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/hitzarpres1-768x572.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 324px) 100vw, 324px\" \/><\/a>&#8220;Writing is, of course, a very important skill and an intriguing facet of linguistic behaviour&#8221;, he said, in his opening remarks (simultaneously interpreted in three other languages!). &#8220;But it is still, nonetheless, a kind of accoutrement to the essence of language, which is realised in its most elemental form through speech.
