As she explains in her words of introduction, the song \u2013 \u201cCompanaich m\u2019 \u00f2ige\u201d (companions of my youth) \u2013 was composed by her paternal uncle Iain Archie MacAskill, the \u201cBard of Berneray\u201d. He returned from the war, while many of his comrades did not. He later moved to Australia, and composed this song there.<\/p>\n<p>The song can be found in the collection <a title=\"An Ribheid Chi\u00f9il\" href=\"http:\/\/books.google.co.uk\/books\/about\/An_ribheld_chiuil.html?id=yhi0ZwEACAAJ&amp;redir_esc=y\">\u201cAn ribheid chi\u00f9il\u201d<\/a>, edited by Alick Morrison, published in 1961.
